Personal Dashboard showing my issues across projects with Drag and Drop reordering

Daniel Åkerud

Hey and sorry for the long title.

I'm currently trying to create a personal dashboard where i can prioritize and reorder all issues assigned to me. For example if I have 10 issues assigned to me on different projects that are all "high", I want to be able to drag and drop them to reorder. But the reordering should only affect this dashboard, preferably.

I have created a dashboard and added different gadgets, for example the "assigned to me" gadget, but the order is fixed.

Hey @Daniel Åkerud,

Dashboard are fixed. They are meant for viewing data more than working on data. What you probably want is a personal Kanban board (which you can do in the Cloud version of Jira). However, rank is a global field that will be affected anytime it changes on any board.

My question for you is if you have issues assigned to you across projects can you use a different field to determine the order you should complete the tasks such as due date?

If you made a Kanban board that ordered the tasks by due date, rank would be unaffected and you would be able to see clearly which high priority task needed to be completed before another.

Just a thought.

Hi @Daniel Åkerud

Trust you are well.

Agree with @Jimmy Seddon here. I would focus on personal Kanban board. Since you are looking into personal productivity system I would suggest to organize it similar to GDT principles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getting_Things_Done).

To help you there our Advanced Kanban & Agile Boards allows you to put any Jira standard or custom field as columns or swimlanes. Drag and drop between columns and swimlanes will automatically re-assign values. You can also define columns or swimlanes via JQL. As cherry on top you can also order by any standard or custom fields. As a result you can theoretically create any board you like, for e.g. the one below ...

As you go further you might consider to setup some proper Work-in-Progress (WIP) limits for your areas of engagements or classes of services you do. This is where the board can help you as well by setting up WIP limits for any column, swimlane and their intersections.

There are a number of Apps similar to ours. This is just to show you the direction of creating a Kanban board for personal efficiency.

Good luck with that and have fun!

Cheers,

Yuri.
