Excerpt revision history

Question

Does anyone know of an app that supports that?

So our organization would like to update the page revision when an excerpt is being updated. Does anyone know a function or a plug in that would support that?

Found out that Atlassian already was not planning on implementing this feature on this page

Well,

As a service organisation we sent out bulletins to our customers, although excerpt contain standardized pieces of text, we feel that even when these changes the document should have a new (minor) version update to make sure that customers that do a print always have the latest at hand.

There's no app for this - it's not really a possible (or, in fact, useful) thing to do.

An excerpt is a snippet of another page.  The page from which the excerpt is extracted has its own history, but that history is of all of the page, not bits of it.  So there is no record of when part of the page was updated, it's the whole thing.

You could write something to extract the dates of change of the source page, and with a lot more code (reinventing the wheel that is the "difference between page versions" code already in Confluence), work out when the excerpted part was changed.  But as the information of when an excerpt was changed is of very little value to almost everyone, no-one has written anything that would do it.

Why do you think you need this?  What would the date of change of an excerpt tell the end user that they need to know?
