Updating from Excel to JIRA

Hi - I keep finding tickets on how to update items from Excel to JIRA, but they tend to be a old and don't seem to work.

I have JIRA Cloud and Excel linked so I can export issues directly into an Excel file.

What I am looking to do is make changes in Excel and have the changes exported to JIRA/saved to the ticket in JIRA.

Can someone please tell me if that is possible? If so, can you please tell me how to do it? Maybe a link to something recent?

I looked at apps and I can't see anything free. I know that there is way to do this in DevOps, so I am sure there should be a way to do it in JIRA.

Appreciate any help in advance.

Hi @Matt Ashtiani , to be clear you don’t import from Excel but rather CSV which you can create from Excel. Have a read of this article create-issues-using-the-csv-importer

You can export issues, make mods and then reimport the file in CSV format.

I'm from the Team behind Excel 365 Connector, our app does exactly that: allows you to import issues to Excel, make changes and export those changes back to Jira. It's paid app, but it might save you the time and it's easy to start for all team members (without any needed administrative rights).

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. All this happens directly in Jira and is therefore 100% live - meaning that whatever change you make in a JXL directly updates your Jira issues, and vice versa; no need for any synchronisation process whatsoever.

This is how it looks in action:

JXL also comes with a range of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting - so there really shouldn't be many reasons left to export your data to Excel. If you still want to, you can do an export to Excel in just one click, and easily copy/paste values between JXL and Excel.
