253 old, closed tickets from a year ago have been imported into my current sprint - and when I try to delete them it says i have found a dead link and nothing happens! what can I do to clear them?

Perhaps you can try a JIRA Re-index?

This closed tickets, do they have a Resolution set?

I'm not sure if the re-index can solve the problem, but you might want to give it a try.
