Permission for all users to create company managed projects

Hi,

I'm experiencing an issue that I cannot seem to work around.

I'm trying to give all users in my organization permission to create Company Managed Projects, but only one user can do so for some reason.

I've added all of them to a group (site-admins) that grants Organization Admin permissions, but only one is able to create these projects.

I can't seem to find a difference between this user and the others.

Can you help me out? Is more information needed?

Hi @Francisco Ferraz - Please go to admin.atlassian.com and then select your organization. Click on Product access and then add site-admin group in Jira Administration under the Administration access tab.

Hi Francisco,

Company managed project are created by Jira administrators. So in order for all users to be able to create company managed projects all users would have to be Jira administrators.

I would advise against this. Giving all users jira admin permissions can quickly result in a rampant growth of custom configurations. Moreover, if your users are not familiar with the intricacies of jira they may inadvertedly make changes that affect the entire instance.

Instead I would advise one of the following:

If the projects need to be company managed because of uniformity; create a template project that can be used as a base for all future projects. Then have a jira administrator create projects when requested.
If the users need to be able to customise their projects as they see fit, use team managed projects instead. This will allow your users to create and customise their projects without affecting any other projects in the instance.
Identify the group of users who need to create projects the most, and only give jira administrator permissions to this group.

Yes, you are right. That's what I proposed but I'm not the one taking the decissions here haha.

Anyways, I'm still unable to create a group that has administrator permissions. The whole issue is that the people added to site-admins cannot create projects:

Ah, well. Sometimes life gives us lemons. Beyond stressing the risks and that this goes against best practice there is not much you can do in that case.

Let me know how it goes. I'm currently in the process of taking away admin rights from our users because 70+ admins has caused quite a bit of chaos.

It could be something as simple as a permission setting that’s different for that one user, maybe tied to their individual profile or an additional role they have. Double-check if there's another layer of permissions at the project level that could be limiting others.
