Create Epic child under initiative

Hello Team,

 

1 - We are unable to create a sub-task or a child in the Initiative with the type Epic or Story,

 

 

 

2 - If an epic is created before the initiative, it is not possible to associate this epic with the created initiative. The solution would be to update the ParentID field of the epic, but this field is not available on the screen. But when we try to add it, we only locate "Parent Link" as shown below :

 

 

Can you please help us, with these 2 points?

Hi @Alae Riahi,

First of all, check your Advanced Roadmaps hierarchy configuration. Navigate to Jira Settings > Issues > Issue Type Hierarchy. Make sure that you have properly defined Initiative above Epic:

As you can see in the above screenshot, this hierarchy is pretty restrictive. So, just as a disclaimer: when you try to add a sub-task to an initiative, you can immediately see here why you can't select an Epic: an epic is not a sub-task, it is up 2 levels higher in the hierarchy.

If you want to link an initiative to an epic from within the epic issue itself, you need to make sure the Parent Link field is available on your Epic issue screens. The screenshot you shared in your question is the issue layout. That only shows the fields that have been made available in the screens linked to your Epic issue type. So, from your project settings, select screens (right below Layout) and locate the screen(s) that are linked to your Epic issue type. Add the Parent Link field to (at least) the edit screen. That should also unlock the field in your issue layout and allow you to connect the epics to an initiative.
