Automation Help: Assigning user from set custom field

Hello -- I am an admin building out this automation within a company managed project.

When an issue is created, a director will select a "lead" for the issue. The "Lead" is a custom field (needed for advanced road map view)

I would like for an automation to be triggered by this selection of the Lead custom field.

Once triggered, i would like for the lead selected to also apply to the "assignee" field (system field)

Essentially want this to happen so the director does not have to select two different places for assignee (leading to human error)

I'm not sure how to do this if someone could help guide me through the choices within automation TY!

You could do an automation as shown below:

Trigger: When field changes (Lead)

Action: Edit issue fields (Assignee)

Configure Assignee "Copy Lead from Current Issue"

You may need several rules to handle the edge cases around your scenario. Please consider what you want to do in each case, such as...

Issue create: copy Lead to Assignee. This will need its own rule.
Lead is changed by edit/update: should it update the Assignee?
Assignee is changed by edit/update: should it update to re-load from the Lead?

And...what should the rules do when the Lead is empty?
