How do I export project backlog to Excel or CSV?

I need to export ALL issues from my Jira project into Excel or CSV to run some analytics in Power BI. I swear there was an export function because I did this a couple weeks go. Was this export feature moved or removed? How can I export all issues in a Jira project, i.e. epics, stories, bugs etc. into Excel? Thanks!

You can export issues from the Advanced Issue Search screen. Create a filter that will retrieve the issues you want, and then use the Excel or Export buttons.

Thanks Trudy. I knew I was forgetting something here... So basically what I think you're saying is that I need to do the following steps:

1) from Jira Software HOME select the PROJECT I need to export

2) click on ISSUES in the left side nav

3) on issues screen, click "Go to advanced search" in the top nav

4) filter on issues I need

5) click "Export" icon in the top nav on the right.

If you are navigating to a Project and selecting the Issue option from the left panel, there should be an Export button at the top of the screen.

Also you don't have to go through a project to get to the Advanced Search screen. You can get to that from the Filters menu.

As far as I know, here is no built-in solution for exporting issues from the backlog dashboard directly. But we can export filtered issues under project "Issues" section using JQL.

Then the question is how to find the appropriate filter to filter out "backlog issues". There are various of answers online but none of them can get exactly number of issues as backlog baseboard has. Thus, I came up one dumb solution that filter issues by issue names:

project = "<Project>" AND issue in (<issue1>, <issue2>, <issue3>, ...) ORDER BY created DESC

The problem is how to get the list of issue names? Maybe we can extract the issue name from the HTLM source code of the backlog dashboard. Here is one way using Python script:

Navigate to the backlog dashboard
Right click the webpage -> "Inspect"
Under "Elements" tab, collapse all html tags -> Right click -> "Copy"" -> "Copy element"
Paste into a file
The list of JQL query will be saved in out.txt by running below Python Script. You have to install beautifulsoup4 · PyPI dependency to run it.

The reason why there is one BATCH_SIZE parameter is that the Atlassian issue export function has size limit. In my case, it failed to export 600 issues, but 100 is ok.

Finally, there are various of CVS combiner tool to help merge the issues together.
