How to make a numeric field not editable after closing the issue?

I want to make a numeric field not editable after changing the workflow status to Close. However, I want to put a restriction that I should only have permission to change the custom field.

Please let me know if we can achieve something like this.

Jira does not have a permission to limit the read only behaviour of a single custom field in a specific status.

Using workflow properties you can indeed restrict editing in a specific status, but that would apply to the entire issue. Ask yourself if it is actually necessary to edit any other fields once the issue is closed (closed usually means all the work on it is entirely complete). If not, this might be your solution.

As an alternative, you may want to consider removing the field from the edit screen in your project (applies to company managed projects). If you have separate issue screens configured, fields that are on the view screen and not on the edit screen cannot be edited.

Obviously, when you want to update those fields throughout the issue lifecycle, you need a way to do so. You can do so by configuring a transition that goes from a status to itself (e.g. from In Progress to In Progress, a transition that does not update the status). You can add a workflow screen to that transition that has the custom field on it and as such allows you to update the field via the transition.
