Can I create a condition to require a field be populated based on another field?

Hi, I have read some posts but not finding an answer. We setup validators for fields but I am looking to have a field required based on the input from another field. 
Example:  If the Automation Status field = Manual, then require the Non Automatable Reason field to be populated. If Automation Status is set to anything other than Manual it does not require it. Anyone know if this is possible without a plugin? Thanks

You would need an app in order to do this, like Scriptrunner or Power Scripts. I know from experience that Scriptrunner has a function that would allow you to make fields required based on values in another field.

This is probably not doable without an app. Speaking of another option, Jira Workflow Toolbox, there is a way to include conditional logic as shown in this example: https://apps.decadis.net/display/JWTCLOUD/Make+a+field+required+only+for+stories

For you, the condition would not be run against the issue type, but your "Automation Status" custom field.
