Jira automation - copying field values that are updated in to 'Labels' field

Hi, currently Atlassian Analytics does not have 'Team' field as an available filter, so I wanted to create a workaround.

 

Does anyone know how I could create an automation, so that every time the 'Team' field is populated, a label is created in the issue which copies the value present in the 'Team' field.

For example, I update the 'Team' field to team c, then automation kicks in and adds a label to that issue called 'team c'

Creating the automation would be simple...the question is will it work: there are (unfortunately) several things called "Team" in Jira Cloud, and I recall they are not all supported by rules.

First thing, I recommend finding an example issue with your Team field set, and then use this how-to article to learn if it is supported by automation rules: https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/find-the-smart-value-for-a-field/  This will also tell you the exact syntax for the smart value to access the field.

If it is available, your rule could be something like this:

• trigger: issue field updated for Team
• action: edit issue to add a label, based on the Team field

Another possible wrinkle is that not all fields are listed in that trigger.  In this case, you would need a rule with the Issue Updated trigger, and then check the change log to learn if your field changed.
