I have set up an account, created everything you have asked but I cant find or use the free template I wanted.

Did you want to use a Confluence page template? If so, when you click on the "Create" button, the new draft that opens has a side bar on the right hand side, and you can select a template to apply to the page. You'll want to do this before you start adding content to the page.
