Remove departed team member from assignee dropdown

Question

Our board is cluttered with former team members. Half of the folks in the assignee and requester dropdowns no longer work here.

I've removed the users from our board. I have tried systematically removing them from stories, but still they persist in the dropdowns. Ideas?

Have you set these user to inactive? Administration > directory, find users and deactivate account.
