Starting Risk on a story and ending Risk on a story

Question

I am looking for the ability to show decreased risk based on the completion of a Jira story. For example, if a story has high risk at the start-would like to show that by completing the story it now has low/no risk. Has anyone done something like this before? Can't seem to find something to report off the change in risk.

Hi Dave-the risk is the process that we are automating and using the JIRA story to work that automation. However, while the manual process may be high risk to the business--meaning that we need to add automation right away--the automation may not remove all the risk because the immediate step just decreases the risk. Does that make sense?

It would be good if you can describe your use case in details as @Dave Mathijsalso proposed.

You should also look into standard risk management tools and how you can see risk progress there. We ( SoftComply Risk Manager  ) have multiple ways to display your risk progress and Im sure all other risk apps have it as well.

In ideal world you should keep your risks separate from your user stories and just link them as mitigation controls. When the linked risk mitigation action/control gets done, then the risk can be lowered. The automation can be applied also to make it automatic, but thats tricky part unless you have all straightforward.

Hi @Mary Coakley What criteria are you using to determine the "risk" of a Story?

Are you talking about the critical path?

If yes, I would first consider working with dependencies between issues/stories (by using the Blockers issue type link) to determine this.
