When a task status changes to DONE, how to automatically switch to the next task

Question

Hello, I have a multi-task project, and all the tasks have to be executed sequentially.

How can I automatically launch the next task from the TO DO list, after the current task status changes to DONE?.

The same way, how to do it by creating a new task(something like step1, step2,... etc.) for the same project and assign a new assignee ?

Can it be done directly with Jira automation or are there any extension or application able to do it ?

we had a similar requirement

we have tasks under story like Task 1, Task 2 , Task 3

Task 2 status should be marked as in progress when Task 1 is marked as Done

Actually I don't know what forms are used for.

By launching a task, I mean to transition it from the TO DO status to IN PROGRESS status. The assignee might have been previously assigned or dynamically assigned.

Yes, the tasks should be executed sequentially, it means, the next task on top of the To Do list cannot be moved to IN PROGRESS until the current IN PROGRESS task status changes to DONE

With automation, what i don't know how to do it, is selecting the next task, which should be at the top of the To Do list.
