Sum up story points based on custom filter's result

Question

Hi Everyone,

I have a pretty simple filter what I would like to use during sprint plannings to be able to see immediately whether we have enough tester capacity. We have two labels which we use to signal if a ticket needs to be tested, that's why I need those labels in my query.

I have this query:

sprint = 117863 AND (issuetype = bug OR issuetype = Story AND labels in (sampleLabel1, sampleLabel2))  and I saved it as a Filter

But I don't know how to use it to reach my end goal to see the sum of the Story Points column. I checked some previous questions but the only what I saw is a pie chart called "Workload Pie chart" but this chart is not available for us among gadgets.

Hi @Ködbaum József,

You could use some of the gadgets offered by our Great Gadgets app.

With the Issue Filter Formula gadget you can have the sum displayed on your dashboard. All you have to do is to add the gadget to your dashboard and configure it to SUM the Story Points (or any other numerical field) for the filter that you already created.

Or, you could configure the Advanced Issue Filter Formula gadget to display more details about the capacity and current filling ratio. Something like this:

I'm not personally aware of any built-in functionality for that - but if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you'll find several tools that can help with that. E.g., my team and I work on an app named JXL for Jira in which this would be easy to do:

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of advanced features, including the ability to calculate sum ups for all your fields with just one click. This is how it looks in action:

Every JXL sheet is powered by a JQL statement, so you could simply use your JQL statement, and would probably be done with your task in sub 1 minute!

Sum-ups work for all issue fields, plus you can configure different sum-up styles and methodologies. There's also several other advanced features, including support for configurable issue hierarchies, issue grouping, or conditional formatting.

As mentioned above, there may be other Marketplace apps that can help with this, too. You may already know that you can trial any app for free for 1 month, and depending on the size of your size, it may be free forever. So if an app is an option for your, perhaps try a few and see which works best for you.
