Cannot save page in collaborative edit mode "Publish the page?" popup not showing

Hi,

We are using Cloud Confluence. Today it happened that on one of the pages (created with the old editor) we could not save the page.

If the save button was pressed, the page went grey and nothing happened. We noticed that in the "background" there was a hidden modal form "Publish the page?" "You'll also be publishing changes made by these people: ... " that was waiting for user input. If we pressed "Enter", the page was then saved.

We checked for pop-up blockers and browser-related problems but we couldn't find anything.

I also couldn't find any known Atlassian bug.

Did it happen to somebody else? What did you o to solve it except that only one person should edit such pages (no collaborative editing)?

We managed to reproduce the behavior with Atlassian support engineer. Since it is an old editor, we cannot expect fast bugfix or solution.

There is a workaround: when the page is greyed-out press "Enter" to confirm "hidden" pop-up window. Sometimes the browser page refresh also helps.

I would escalate but unfortunately we cannot reproduce it anymore so there is not much they could work on. I've posted it here just to check if this was one-off glitch or something more common.

Did this bug appeared only to you from a specific browser? Do you have any extension enabled? Did you try to reproduce it from a different browser?

We reproduced it on Chrome and MS Edge, we played with security settings and open it as much as possible (allow all pop-ups, no browser extensions or add-blockers ...).

We noticed the "hidden" popup in browser dev tools (F12) and when we tried to identify it on the page, it was hidden somewhere below bottom left corner.

Additional note: the popup was briefly displayed if we hit back button on the browser.

So far I am guessing that it was a Confluence collaboration temporary glitch maybe related to somebody editing the page any maybe leaving the tab opened for a few days or closing the tab while in edit mode. Once we managed to save all changes from other users, it somehow started to work (I guess there was no reason to display the popup).

While I was writing this answer and checking the displayed messages, we managed to reproduce the scenario again!

It happens when somebody has "active" editing session open and there is a note in old editor at the bottom: "Pages can't be converted while editing collaboratively". When the other user closed the tab (while in edit mode), the message on the bottom was changed to "This page can be converted to the new editor" and saving page was possible again. I guess that the pop-up window didn't need to be displayed.

I'll open a support case and let you know the root cause if it will be identified.
