How to update story points based on workflow statuses

If I choose status as in progress ,backlog then have to make story points as mandatory option.Is there any way to achieve this?

I think what you are looking for is the field required validator as in https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/use-workflow-validators-with-custom-fields/
