Am I able to have "cross-project epics" between Jira Software and Jira Work Management projects?

Heidi Vuojolainen

I can create cross-project epics for Jira Software projects, but I would like to share epics from the Jira Work Management project to the Jira Software project. Is this possible?

The epics I have on the Jira Work Management project are not showing up on the Epic Link field when I'm creating a task for the Jira Software project.

Resolution: My project was, by mistake set as a team-managed project so the cross-project epics were not working. Switching to company managed project fixed the problem.

Hi Heidi - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Yes, you can do that. I just tested again in my instance and was able to do it. Make sure you have the right permissions in both projects to be able to see it.

Hi, thanks for the super quick response! Any tips on which permissions I should be checking? I have not changed the default settings for the Work Management project.

When creating a task to a Jira Software project I can see epics from every other project available but not from the Work Management project.

See if you can see the Epic using a filter

Just a simple filter like project = ABC and issuetype = Epic

Heidi Vuojolainen

Yes. I'm able to see the issues when filtered.

I can't see them when searching with the epic name or issue key while creating a new issue:

They can be found from the Jira Work Management board: Screenshot 2023-01-26 at 8.12.28.png
