Changing ticket status from Backlog to In Progress is not reflected in Backlog List

I am using the "Planning" > "Sprint Board" > Backlog for planning. It has the URL

https://mycompany.atlassian.net/jira/software/c/projects/MYPROJECT/boards/118/backlog

It shows a list separated into two sections:

Sprint 1 and Backlog.

I am able to drag and drop tickets from one section to another, but this is cumbersome when there are many tickets.

What I expected is that changing the status of a ticket (in the gray/blue button dropdown) the ticket, from Backlog to In progress, would be automatically moved out of the Backlog list. However, this is not the case. I still have to drag and drop the ticket for it to show up in my Sprint Kanban board.

Is there some setting in the workflow that needs to be changed?

Jira clouds works with async functions. Meaning that you will not see the action performed the exact time you do it. It may happen a few seconds afterwards. In any case you can also reload the page and you will see the issue that has been moves to the other section.

A scrum board does not work with statusses to make the difference between backlog and current sprint.

The backlog can have issues with any status.

The difference is the "sprint" field. To move an issue from the backlog to the current or a future sprint, you need to fill in that sprint field.

You could do that automated if you want to, or put the sprint field on the transition screen.

If you want to use a status-based backlog, you need to use kanban instead of scrum.

I see, I'm new to Jira and am surprised that it takes so long. I made a change over ten minutes ago and it still isn't reflected in my front-end. Thanks for the explanation!

Yes, I've been reloading my browser every 1 or 2 minutes. I don't do a full refresh, only a "regular" one. Just did a full refresh and still nothing.

You can add issue in bulk to a sprint as well if you want to by:

bulk editting the issues and adding the sprint to the sprint field
selecting multiple issues in the backlog (ctrl-click or shift-click) and drag them to the sprint in bulk
