Equal Sort Order on Kanban Board and on List

I could not find any hint to this.

On the Kanban Board I sort the tasks manually. I have 6 Columns and multiple tasks in each Column.

Then I click on "List" for another view. Now I would expect to see column 1, Item 1 first, then Column 1 Item 2 etc. but after the last of column 1 it's not Column 2, Item 1, then item 2 but rather column 6, item 1 appears.

How can I get that default sort to represent this logic sequence ?

what view do you mean here?

The list view would for me mean the view in the issue list - that view is always sorted by the chosen order [chosen either by SQL query or by clicking to sort by column.]

If that is the list view we talk about - make sure you have the SQL query the same as for your board, just switch the ordering to "ORDER BY status DESC, rank DESC"

Welcome to the community.

Let's first clarify what type of project you're using.

Is it Company Managed or Team Managed? This will usually be stated near the bottom of the navigation pane on the left.

Is it a Software, Service, or Business/Work Management project? This will usually be stated at the top of the navigation pane just below the project name.

If you are having trouble answering the above questions, provide screen images that show the contents of the navigation pane.

I suspect that you are using a Business project, because that is the only project type that has "List" as an option in the navigation pane.

Generally speaking the ordering of issues in the columns of a board is called Ranking. In Jira Ranking is tracked across issues regardless of their status. If you have an issue at the top of Column 2 it may still have been ranked lower than some issues and higher than some issues in Column 1. The List view will show the issues by their Rank overall, not by their Rank per Column.

Thanks for trying to help me.

I'm in a Team-managed project.

I have searched all pages, but can't find any indication on Software, Service, or Business/Work Management project. Screenshot of the navidation is attached.

I assume, that you are right with the ranking.

I have no intention to build complicated queries etc. So coming from other tools I was used that changing the view just let me have the same sort order. I want to behave like a user but get the max out of the tools.

So I might need to work with the List function only and sort all there. This basically would bring me to the point of MS Project but in MS Project I'm the only one to see it. Boards are nice for Managers, Lists are good if you want lots of Info.

Thanks for your feedback.

I know, that I could fill in start dates or other things to have a list sort order, but it would just make it all more complicate.

I was used to another tool where you could write comment without having to search for a save button and sorts keept just the logic way over views until you specifically changed it. This is why I'm having a bit trouble to get used to some very "unlogic" behaviours of JIRA. However, the company decided for the tools so I try to make the best our of it and bring it to use to all who might benefit from it.

Your screen image confirms that you are working with a Business/Work Management project.

With the List view in a Business project there is a Group By option above the list. If you set Group By to Status, then you will see the issues grouped by Status (i.e. board columns) and within each grouping the issues will be displayed in the same order you see them displayed on the board.

Yes, the sort order of the items inside the column and in the list in the "chapters" are the same now. A change is reflected after a page refresh.

The only thing that does not work is the sort order of the columns. My 2nd to last column from the board comes second in the list and I can't move it down in the list.

Any idea on this ?
