Automation examples to Copy Epic Comment to linked Parent Portfolio item

Lisa Kerns

We have a Portfolio of work that relates to epics on various team boards.  Teams work in the epics, but need to keep the Parent comment updated from time to time for status purposes.  Is it possible to get an automation example to automate the copying of the epic comment to the related parent.   Thanks in advance!

Hi @Lisa Kerns

What have you tried thus far to solve this one?

If you have a rule started, please post images of your rule and the audit log details.  Those will provide context for the community to offer suggestions.

If you have not started a rule yet, what would this trigger upon: should adding any comment to an epic copy the comment up to the associated parent?  In that case, your rule would be triggered on Issue Commented, and then reference the parent for the copy.  For example:

• trigger: issue commented
• condition: issue type is epic
• branch: to the parent of the epic, using JQL on key = {{triggerIssue.parent}}
  • action: comment on issue with the value of {{triggerIssue.comments.last.body}}

Kind regards,
Bill
