Automation for Jira - Recipient mail based on custom group picker field

I've been challenged with the utopic task to create a project where all stakeholder in my company could work together on the same issue.

For the project, I've created a field called "Participating teams" that every reporter set during the opening of the issue. This field is a group picker field and decides the group that may have visibility of that issue.

Right now I'm struggling with the email notification. I'd like to use the same field "Participating teams" to generate the recipient for mail notifications. However, Automation for Jira seems to allow only a static recipient per rule (unless you create an if/else construct with all the possibile group options...). With the default system notification I may have some degrees of success, but the content of these notifications cannot be edited (I'm on cloud).

Any suggestion in this regard is very appreciated.

thanks for cheking.

The project I'm working on should have a state for every stakeholder. When you have to engage the stakeholder, you transition the issue to the relevant state and trigger a mail. There is no rigid workflow, all statuses have the flag on "Allow all statuses to transition to this one". Should you need to add or remove groups to this issue, the reporter may edit the "Participating teams" custom field.

The other statuses of the workflow are just "Waiting for closure" and "Closed".

I need 2 rule for mail notifications: when a stakeholder is engaged and when the issue is transitioned to "Waiting for closure" and "Closed". The content is going to be defferent (although we may decide to semplify this if we can't find a solution) and use several smart values taken from the issue.

For now I haven't build much, as I'm still trying to understand how the mail notifications may work. I've tried to use a smart value for the recipient as I've red somewhere this should work with custom group picker field, but it just sends the mail to the reporter.

thanks for the tip, however it does not work with smart value.

I've been playing around, and accidentally discovered that group picker fields are recognized if you write the full name, the same way you add groups:

We can work with automation for mail notification.
