Automation: using variables

Dear all,

 

I'm trying to use variables in automation. The goal is to get new varialbes field depending of a jira list field, and then do a simple math between them, to inject the value in an other field.

I did screenshots to better explain the mains steps:

FIRST Assigning a simple value to a new var in a if else statement:

 

 

THEN, based on several values crated doing a simple addition in a new variable

 

 

FINALLY injecting the value in a field

 

Althought the audit log show success, no value is inserted.

Does anyone see an obvious mistake I did ?

Hello @Jeff 

One thing I strongly recommend when trying to debug Automation Rules is liberal use of the Log Action action. You can use the Log Action action to print out the values of your variables into the Audit Log and confirm that they hold the values you are expecting. See this example where I replicated what you were doing with your variables.

 

From this you can see that the "math" operation wasn't treated like math, but rather like concatenating strings.
