JQL question regarding STATUS CHANGED TO

Question

Hello,

I am using a JQL below which works for the 'Done' status.

Project = "Digital Marketing Group" AND status = Done AND Status CHANGED to Done AFTER -14d

I have another project but has the Completed status instead of Done. When I update it to use 'Completed' it doesn't work. I get no results.

Project = "Fulfillment" AND status = Completed AND Status CHANGED to Completed AFTER -14d

Does the query only work on certain statuses?

The thing that catches people out here is that status CHANGED TO doesn't look at where an issue is now — it searches the issue's change history. And Jira writes a history entry only when an issue transitions between statuses. The status an issue is created in produces no entry at all.

So a status can hold thousands of issues and still return zero from that query, if those issues arrived without ever transitioning.

You can test it in one comparison, and it needs no admin rights:

status = "Completed"
status CHANGED TO "Completed"

The first is how many issues are there now. The second is how many ever moved in. If the first is large and the second is zero, those issues reached that status some other way — created directly into it, or moved by an import or bulk operation that wrote no history.

Some numbers from a Jira Cloud site I measured in September 2026, about 48,000 issues. One project on it holds 31,161 issues that sit in or pass through a single To Do status. Querying status CHANGED TO that status returned 22 — and that is 22 across the entire site, not just that project. Twenty-two issues had ever moved into it. Everything else was created there and left no record.

Second thing worth ruling out, independent of the first: status names are not unique. That same site defines 87 statuses under only 65 distinct names. Seven separate statuses are called "Done", four are called "To Do", and two are called "Cancelled". So a query naming a status can be ambiguous about which one you actually mean.

That returns every status with its id and name. If Completed appears more than once, query by id instead of by name:

status CHANGED TO 10014

using whichever id is yours.

On the software-versus-service-project question — I would rule out those two first. Both take about a minute and neither needs admin access.

I did check and there is issues completed last 2 weeks. I had to use a different query to show the tickets. The resolved date doesnt show any date so I had to use updated field instead.

I did notice that its a SERVICE PROJECT rather than a SOFTARE PROJECT so not sure if the JQL query works depending on the Atlassian product.

There are some possibilities that might be happening here.

The first of them is that actually you do not have any issues that transitioned to the "Completed" status in the last 14 days. Could you please double check and confirm that you actually have tickets that are in the "Completed" status and changed in the last 14 days?

Second thing that I would check is to access the Statuses page and confirm that the status is actually only "Completed" and then trying to query it through JQL by using double quotes (").

Could you please perform the steps above and let me know how it goes?
