Issue not showing up in backlog

Question

Hello,

I'm Stumped.

* I have a company managed project, configured for Scrum.
* I added a new status to my workflow.
* I then moved the new status to one of the columns in board configuration
* I also adjusted the query for the board to include the new status.

The Issues are still not showing up in the backlog. What gives?

Also, the column configuration page is now showing horizontal rows instead of columns.

Hi Wade,

It also baffled my colleague and me. However, this might be the solution or explanation you are looking for (fingers crossed).

So, if you only have two columns on your board, Jira considers the farthest right column the "Done" area, for whatever reason. This means that all issues, regardless if the status isn't remotely close to done, are considered "Had finished its issue lifecycle."

Since the backlog does not show any status that is considered "Had finished its issue lifecycle", any issues you have associated with "in discovery" disappears.

However, since an Active Sprint overrides this rule because you typically want to know how much you've completed in the active sprint, you're still able to see the issue in your backlog when it is associated with an active sprint.

I recommend having another status that you can associate to another column (to be placed in the farthest right of your board). It could be "done" or any that you might choose. The important bit here is to avoid having "In Discovery" as the status associated with the farthest right column of your board.

Hi Francis,

I created a test issue. In the Open status it is visible in the backlog along with all of the other stories in the Open Status. No Error messages.

When I change the status to In Discovery, the issue disappears from the backlog.

The issue type is Story.

All of the filters on the backlog are cleared and I don't have any active sprints in this board.

There are two columns configured on the board To Do which contains the Open status and In Progress which contains the In Discovery status

This is the current query

project = NCINO AND issuetype in (Bug, Epic, Spike, Story, "Vendor Story") AND status in ("In Discovery", Open) ORDER BY Rank ASC

EDIT: So...I created a sprint in the backlog and activated it, now it shows the items that are in the in discovery status.

So does that mean I have to have every issue in an active sprint to see them in the backlog view? Because if I remove it from the active sprint, and put it back in the backlog, it disappears again. But everything else that is in an open status is still in the backlog.

I don't get it.

Hi Jimmy,

I don't have any active sprints on this board and all of the other filters have been cleared.

This works with the Open status, just not with the new status I added to the workflow.
