Workflow rule notifying about missing requirements

Hey,

I designed a workflow with rules based on a custom `select people` field. A rule checks if a value of the field was provided. The rule blocks the transition as intended.

The challenge starts when users do not provide the value and are not aware of the possible transition. There's no info/waning.

 

Scenario:

A rule between `In progress` and `Done` checks if a field has a value.

For the field `Owner`,
Review it's value as `Text`,
Check if it `Doesn't contain`,
This value `(selected no people)`

 

Question:

Is there a way for Jira to tell users that they could transfer the ticket to the next status if they provided a value in the field?

Hi @Przemek Sech,

Unless something has changed recently that I am not yet aware of, workflow rules in Team Managed projects can indeed check for missing information, but they can't notify users about what is wrong.

In company managed projects, this is possible. There, the workflow editor allows you to use a validator to perform similar checks, and they do allow you to display error messages on the transition screen you configure with a transition.
