Is there a way to check if the due date is today or less when assigning an issue?

I have an overdue status set up based on the due date. But it happens that users are assigned either tasks that are already overdue or due today.

I would like to find a way to control and inform the users that the due date is in the past or today when they are assigning an issue to another user or transitioning it.
