Jira Automation rule: If teams field is empty assign to specific team

I am trying to create a rule, if a teams fields is empty it will auto assign to a certain team based on the assignee

No you can't. Jira us not smart enough to determine the team the person is on and assign a team.

Thank you, is there a way to set the teams field based on the assignee? A ticket is assigned to someone but the teams field is empty. Does jira automation have the capabilities to set the teams field by looking to see if there is an assignee and set it to the appropriate team?

Hi @Ben Van Walbeek

You can accomplish this with jira automation.

* You will have to defined the trigger (status change, at creation, etc.)
* Condition use a jql condition to check that the field is empty: team is empty
* Action: edit the team customfield (this would have to be a group custom field) to the corresponding team. Note that the assignee field is only available for  individual users, so you must use a new user group customfiel. Also the group needs to be populated with users.
