JQL compare todays date with a fixed date

I want to check whether a fixed date corresponds to today's date. With the function startOfToday() I get today's date, but I can't compare it with for example "2022-03-31". Comparing it to a field in a Jira issue works fine. Is there any way to compare with a string?

Example
"2022-03-31" < startOfDay("-0d")

In which context do you need this syntax? As a condition for an automation to trigger?

To just use that as a JQL will never work unless you specify a field to check its value. Like if you want to find all issues with a due date equal or bigger than today's date: duedate > startOfDay(-1d) for example.

You can use strings but then it has to be checked against a field value, like: duedate >= 2022-03-28 to achieve the same as above (at least today).

If we pretend that what you wrote would work you'll check startOfDay against a string basically return true that this string is today, but since you are not checking against a field, no issues can be displayed. But as I asked, it depends on the context.
