Require a field before marking a Story as Done

Question

Hi. We have a custom field in JIRA story, that is used to capture comments.  Is there a way to ensure that people fill this field, before being able to mark the story status as "Done"?      Could anyone point to a documentation that will help me understand how to do it?

A validator is the right approach. Use the "Fields required" validator in combination with your field on a screen.

This approach assumes:

* You have the JIRA Suite Utilities Plugin enabled in your instance
* You're not using the simplified workflow

I would suggest another approach:

* Create a screen with your custom field and possibly the Resolution field too, both as required fields.
* Add your screen to the transition(s) that go to the status Done ('Adding a transition', point 5, second bullet).
* Publish the draft of your workflow.

After that, your screen will be prompted to users on changing the status of issues to Done, and a Resolution and a value for your custom field will have to be provided for the change to be applied.

You need to add validation on Done transition in your workflow.

the validator name is "field is required" which will prevent users from transitioning to Done if the field is empty.
