insight discovery agent - duplicate application objects

Question

Hello. Trialing JSM Premium. Getting duplicate application objects for most of the installed applications except 1 object is missing some attributes: InstallDate & InstallLocation Each object has a different ObjectHash. Otherwise the values of the Name, Description, Vendor, Version and VisibleMSUI attributes are the same. I thought maybe something wrong in the import process but the duplication is present in the source XML. Here is an example: 6538A98D9C1CD9E1907ED0615EC517D1 PDF-XChange Editor PDF-XChange Editor 01/20/2022 C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\ Tracker Software Products (Canada) Ltd. 9.2.359.0 false 779C3CFF2D143DE3C7CD9E92FB0FBEB3 PDF-XChange Editor PDF-XChange Editor and its components Tracker Software Products (Canada) Ltd. 9.2.359.0 false I'm going to try the agent on another pc and see if I get the same result. I kind of expect that I will. Any ideas how I stop this? Or is there a simple method of querying and removing duplicates in Insight?

Unfortunately, I've not done much with Discovery since posting the above question - been too busy elsewhere. Will update here when I've had a look.

By the way, do you know how I would accept your response as the answer? There does not appear to be an option to do so.

Hi Ian,

I would assume that the different ObjectHash is because of the missing install date in the second case.

Have und checked ObjectHashSettings.xml to see which fields are used to build the ObjectHash ?

Tested agent on another pc. Same result. Duplicate entries in the XML file for nearly all applications in Windows 'Programs and Features' section. This result in duplicate entries in Insight when imported because the object hash is different.

Am I doing something fundamentally wrong?
