View All Issues in Backlog but not in Active Sprint

Is there a way to show all backlog issues on the Backlog, but only show certain issues within the associated Active Sprint? Right now, we have over 100 items in our backlog, but I don't want anything with the "Backlog" or "Scoping" status to appear in the Active Sprint. Is this possible?

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Issues shown in the backlog view have not been assigned to a sprint, and will only be visible on that view. Once you start a sprint, only issues that have been assigned to that sprint will be shown, and they will appear in the column that is mapped to the status that the issue is currently in.

Not on a Scrum Board.

This is because Issues can be in any Status that is mapped to a column (aside from the right-hand "done" column) - in either the Sprint or the Backlog. The Backlog isn't defined separately.

This is different to a Kanban Board, where the Backlog is defined as an actual column, thus can be what you map to it.

If you do map Scoping to the Board - you could then...

Quick Filter: Have a filter for showing a refined view of Issues, without Statuses which aren't relevant to active Sprints
Card Colours: Show Scoping Issues with a red line, to make it clear what these are to the team - if you're concerned about these being added to Sprints
Card Layout: Modify the card layout, so it's clear which Status is applied
Automation: Have an Automation rule to either notify you when an Issue in Scoping is added to a Sprint, or have it auto-reverse and remove the Sprint when accidentally added.

Alternatively, you could ave a separate Kanban board for pre-sprint-ready Issues, if there is work to be done to get to DOR

Depending on what you want to do, there are options here

Could you please move the "Backlog"/ "Scoping" status from the unmapped column to To Do/ On Do column.

Please refer your second screenshot last colum (unmapped column) you can find the Backlog status with 103 issues

Backlog issues not yet assignee to any of the sprint that's why you are unable to view it under active sprint ... You may check your first screenshot there is any option of "create sprint" that's means the below issues are not assigned to any sprint yet.

Right, but if you see in my first screenshot I have 10 issues on the backlog, when I actually have over 100. If I map the status to the first column on the Active Sprint board then they will appear in the Backlog, but also in the first column on the Active Sprint board. I only want them to appear in the Backlog.

So, in summary, if it's set to statuses "Backlog" or "Scoping" I want it to appear on the Backlog, but not the Active Sprint board. Any other status, and if it's been pulled into the sprint, should appear on the Active Sprint board.

Hi Ankit, we do have an active sprint, but I don't want the entire backlog to appear on the Active Sprint board. I only want issues with any status other than "Backlog" or "Scoping" to appear in the Active Sprint board. Thanks!

In order to see all the issues that the board filter selects you have to map them to a column on the board, or else they will not be visible on the backlog either. You could use a quick filter to remove them from an active sprint, or better yet, have a process that you cannot add issues that are in Backlog or Scoping into a sprint.

Active sprint, only reflect those issues which are tagged in that sprint.

First you need to move "Backlog" or "Scoping" status from unmapped column to the respective columns (like To Do column) only then you are able to view the issues of Backlog" or "Scoping" status issues under Active Sprint.

We're trying to do the same thing...but to refine the question is: on a Filter (Advanced Filter), how do I see all items NOT associated with a Sprint. There's no <none> criteria defined. Therefore, I can't do a bulk change on a filter.

In the Sprint Backlog. There are issues not assigned to a Sprint (but they have their own statuses because of legacy issues we had/have). Below the current and future Sprints, there's a Backlog section. I'd like to see ALL of them in a filter so I can bulk change items (or even let other managers know that they need to clean up their work).

So does your filter need to include...

All Statuses - or only the legacy Statuses?
Any Issue which is currently in the Backlog? - i.e...
- Issues with no Sprint (closed or open)
- Issues which were in previous Sprints, but aren't planned for a future Sprint

Is this correct?
