Convert string to number

I have a custom field "Participants of an issue" with a user list

The goal is to show the sum of those users and if a new user was added to the list, then +1 to the sum.

Caveat: "Participants of an issue" is a string field. I assume I need to convert it into a number and create automation based on it.

I created a "participants_sum" custom field, set the default value to 0. The field is supposed to store the sum value.

I think what I need to do next is to create a new variable inside the rule to convert string to a number (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Automation-for-Jira-Create-variable-New-component/ba-p/1448118) but not sure how to implement that.

Two add two fields, it's this way

You can use this in the automation rule to get the number of participants:

Trigger it on value changed for request participants, then you should be set to go.

Hi @Pramodh M It doesn't seem to be working, could you please have a look? The audit log shows the rule triggered, but I don't see any changes in the ticket

where customfield_10061 is "Participants of an issue", customfield_10062 is "Sum_issue_participants"

"Sum issue participants" is a number custom field.

Insert the variable for your text field

To add the two fields now use created variable

I'm stuck on Else-If statement. Do you know of any workaround to avoid "Panel ID is Empty"?

In my case "Participants of an issue" is the list type custom field and doesn't support Empty/Null operators (here's a review of all Jira fields Custom fields types in company-managed projects, I used "Participants of an issue")

Can you please check my settings?

1. I created new fields: IMP (field type "number", aka "imp" in your example), Issue_Participants (field type "participants of an issue" aka "Panel ID" in your example), Sum_participants (field type "number", aka "Urg" in your example)

2. Set Automation
