How to Split an issue?

Hello, everyone,

Our team has been using Jira since june 2021 and we have a software project.

We start our tasks but then we need to continue them for the next sprint. We realized the best way to do this it is to split an issue, do that the original estimate is split between two issues accordingly.

However, I cannot find the action to "Split issue", I can clone it, but not Split (I am using a Mac and I have admin access).

I have searched from this community but the answer hasn't helped me yet.

How can I split an issue on this current version of Jira?

Can I split an issue already assigned in a Sprint?

Thank you very much for the feedback.

I have a team-managed project, but I am thinking about moving to a company-managed project (and this last one I just created I can indeed split the issue, yey!).

And thank you for the planning suggestion, I will review it with the team.

Hi @Rita Amaral -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Are you using a company-managed or team-managed project?  You may find this information at the bottom of the left-side panel from the project.

At this time, I believe that Split Issue is only available for company-managed projects as a right-click from the backlog view.

Please also note that splitting an issue in a current sprint is fixing a symptom of a planning challenge.  Please consider discussing with the team at a retrospective why they thought they could finish the item in the sprint (without splitting) to see how sprint planning could be improved.
