Custom Burndown charts

Hi,

There have already been lots of discussions about how to create a better burndown report for teams that are 'done' when development is complete, not when QA & release is done.

I understand I can have a board that has dev complete as the done status.

However, it has also been suggested to get an add-on to report Burndown on a custom status. Has anyone used any that actually worked? It needs to be good for server & cloud.

I have tried https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1219872/advanced-burndown-chart-gadget-for-jira?hosting=cloud&tab=overview and I cannot get it to show any Burndown when I configure a dashboard for it.

Anyone used that and you can please help me? Or another tool that would do the same thing?

We for some reason like burnups better as it show team burn up rate vs scope creep. You might try out Burnup Gadget from our Gadgets for Release Management & Roadmaps collection. It includes a custom JQL filer so you can fine tune to show burnups during development phases only or regression only, any any other adjustment you wanna bring with Custom JQL.

Thanks for your question.

Yes you can - you’d just want to make sure that the Source of your chart includes only subtasks (if you’re using JQL it would be something like “type in (subTaskIssueTypes())“). Then you can chart by Sprint and group by Assignee to get a view of how many subtasks your team members are working on per Sprint.

We built a custom burndown dashboard gadget that accepts JQL as input (available in the Marketplace – more details here).

To address this request, you would set the JQL for the burndown to target the statuses in question. This would limit the burndown chart to that specific set of issues.

Even better, I recommend using the "Multiple Burndown" feature. It allows you to set one JQL query for the overall project and then add additional burndowns based on labels or other criteria. This approach lets you visualize subsets of issues (such as specific statuses) in the same chart alongside the project's overall burndown.

Each additional burndown is defined with its own JQL, which is combined ("ANDed") with the original query. The result is that you can track progress on a specific slice of work within the context of the full project.

For example, I like to use this feature to visualize:

Features as a function of the overall project
Bugs relative to total scope
Priorities, such as high-priority issues, compared to the full backlog (example below)

The main burndown series are rendered in solid colors:

Green = remaining
Blue = points completed or time spent
Yellow = estimate accuracy (green + blue)

Additional burndown series are shown as dashed lines with the same color scheme.

The Release Burndown Chart, if I could show as a % of the total issues, would be ideal; especially if I could use a custom filter as the scope! Is this a standard Jira gadget, or a plugin please?
