Email Handler - Message must be sent within last 7 days

Question

In the troubleshooting section of the mail handler documentation, it is detailed that emails with a "sent date" older than 7 days would not be processed.

Can I please get an elaboration on what this would actually look like in the real world?

The only example I can think of is an email that has failed to send, more than 7 days has then passed, and then the same email successfully sends, retaining the initial send date.

If someone could please confirm if I am on the right track that would be appreciated.

Can you give me a made-up scenario of how this occurs though, how does an "old email" even happen?

You are on the right track, the handler will ignore email with a sent date over 7 days ago.

I'm not sure what you want in an elaboration - there's not a lot more we can tell you beyond "old emails will not be processed by Jira, it will just ignore them"
