How can I know how many results that Jira found when it is over 1000

Question

In order to do some data analysis, I set up the filter in Jira and try to find out how many tickets meet my criteria. It is not necessary to pull all the line items to the CSV, I just want to know HOW MANY tickets. But the Jira can only tell me that you find 1000+ results. How can I write up JQL to find out the ticket number or if there is any quick workaround?

Hi @Min

You may  need to put this in a gadget for example to get the actual number.

Unfortunately, we cannot change the number shown at the bottom when more than 1000 issues are a result of a search.

There are two solutions I can see:

Via the UI

As @Ismael Jimoh said, you can use the "Filter counts" gadget to get the total for a saved filter:

This will then display the number of all issues belonging to this one filter. If you do that analysis regularly, you could setup a separate dashboards with all the counts on it.

Via the REST API

As an alternative, you can use the REST API, as described also in this post. In order to do so, you need to call https://YOUR-INSTANCE.atlassian.net/rest/api/2/search?jql=YOUR-JQL&maxResults=0 and you will get a result like:

The total is the number you're looking for.

Pro tip: In order to build up the JQL in the correct way, you can also build the JQL via the usual advanced search view in Jira and then copy the jql parameter from the url there.
