Hi, I have a JIRA ticket on my story board with a strikethrough. The ticket status is To-Do and Unresolved.
How do I get rid of the strikethrough.
I don't see any particular flag on the ticket that is resulting in this strike through.
Please advise.
Hi @Adnan Ali,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
The strikethrough is based on the resolution field, if that field has a value Jira will interpret the issue as resolved and will then show the strikethrough. So in order to remove it you have to set resolution to none.
Hello Adnan, there is a field called Resolution. If the Resolution field has a value (Done, Resolved, etc.) the strikethrough may appear. If you check the ticket's History, it is likely that this ticket was completed at one time (at which point the Resolution field gets a value) but later was reopened. Since statuses and workflows are completely configurable, this can happen. The way I have addressed this in the past is to add a Post Function to workflow transitions that clear the Resolution field when a ticket is reopened. Hope that helps!
I suspect you have the resolution field on the create or edit screen for the issue type, and it sounds like you may have added "Unresolved" as a Resolution option.
See Setting the resolution field for more information.
Thanks for your quick response.
What I understand from your comment is that once the ticket is resolved and then moved back to unresolved, by default the strikethrough will stay on the ticket.
Yes, so you have to make sure that your workflow has a post function on each transitions that either sets Resolution to none or to the value you want it to have when the issue is resolved. You could also allow the user to set the resolution when moving to a done status, but you would still have to reset it when moving out of that status.
Hi,
I have the same issue.
Resolution is Strikethrough, even is a new issue.
we need that resolution, im checking the Workflow but can't find any post function or something with resolutin.
any idea how to enble strikethrough ONLY for DONE ?
It's the same as the original answers - you've set the resolution somehow. Probably by having the resolution on the create or edit screen.
In the workflow, look for the post-function "update field"
Is there a GUI way to set the value back to NULL, what you are calling "none"? The only options I see in the dropdown are actual (apparently non-NULL) values.
Lots of helpful replies here, but this other link has some critically helpful details.
Specifically, the field cannot be made optional, and so your way to control its value (or really, it's lack of value -- you want it to be NULL until it's truly resolved), is to remove the field from the Screen completely, and then present a different screen at resolution time.
And yes, if there are any loops in your workflow, such as a REOPEN, you may have to unset the value programmatically, as mentioned above.

Resolution Field can't be made optional. DO NOT put the field on any screen except the one presented in the transition where it is to be set. Resolution is a special field in JIRA. It has an initial value of ‘Unresolved’, which means the field is NULL in the database. It is ALWAYS required when it appears on the screen. ONLY display it on the screen during a transition to the status where you want it set. Once it is set the issue ID will appear with as strikethrough. If you re-open an issue the transition from closed to reopen needs to have a post function to CLEAR the resolution field to set it back to Unresolved.
No, there's no way to edit the issue, you have to push it through a transition that clears the resolution, or find an app that can clear it (Sales alert - this was one of the very first things Adaptavist built into Scriptrunner as a "canned script" - a script embedded that you can just run, not have to write)
This one was fun to figure out. I ended up using an advanced automation that fires when the issue is transitioned. I just had to set up the action and write a little code to set the resolution field to NULL.
