"Planned vs actual" of project progress

Hi,

We are attempting to track a high-level roadmap of all our technology initiatives using Jira Cloud. Naturally, these initiatives span tasks across multiple teams (product management, development, engineering, marketing communications, branding, customer support, etc.)

Therefore, we are currently evaluating the project management template. We specifically like the Timeline view which displays all our open initiatives in a Gannt chart form.

However, we would like to customize this Timeline view to showcase the original plan vis-a-vis any ongoing updates we make to the plan. i.e. is there any way to compare the closure date of a task against the "due date" of the task?

Are there any other configurations that might help to customize the Timeline view on the Project Management template?

Chiranth, has asked for question, but there is no response from Jira Expert. Should we understand Jira doesn't have plan v/s actual for project tracking .

Thanks Tania.

It will be a hard sell for me to use plugins, mainly due to the pricing. It doesn't make sense for our company to pay the price for 100+ Jira users when at most 10 people would use this plugin's functionality.

Therefore, I would prefer to use a Jira-native solution, if one is available.

There're multiple plugins for Jira that can help you get more out of it.

I can recommend BigPicture for their well-structured Gantt.
If you're looking for a way to compare estimates vs your real progress, Planyway might be a good solution as it combines both Timeline views and Time tracking.

When you view Jira issues on the Timeline, you have a chance to see estimated hours vs actual tracked hours right on the card. In case the estimation is exceeded, it'll be highlighted.
