Problem creating a Sub-task due to Epic-Link configuration

Question

In our cloud-based, company-managed project we are having problems creating sub-tasks in Stories and Epics. When we create a Story or an Epic we cannot update the Epic Link field. Other projects within our Jira site do not have a problem creating a sub-task so it must be a configuration problem within our project as opposed to a product issue.

Any ideas on what may need to be amended to solve this problem?

If you are trying to add an Epic Link to the sub-task directly, that's not possible. Is that what you were trying to solve?

Unfortunately not John, we decided to keep the Epic Link field for our project
