When editing an issue, how to highlight text in description?

I don't think there's an option to highlight text (change text background) in Jira, but you can change the text colour to make it more visible in the sentence.

Does anyone know if this has been submitted as a feature request?

Sometimes, when you paste text into a Jira text field, the pasted text is highlighted. Also, if you mention a name (@JohnDoe) the name is highlighted. But I cannot see a way to highlight text in the UI.
