Monospace text

I'd like to be able to format some text with a monospace font. I know the code macro can do this but I want to be able to highlight the text specifically (bold, italic, change colour etc).

I've seen some reference to a noformat or preformatted option but these do not seem to be available to me.

From what I can see this is something that was provided before but has been taken away despite a number of customers requiring it.

Is there anything I can do?

I can't find anything about preformatted being removed from Cloud, and it's still working for me in all the Confluence Cloud systems I've tried today.

Ah, sorry, I forgot.

Your page is set to use the new editor for Cloud. This doesn't have the "preformatted" text, exactly as you say in your original question, it expects you to use "code" blocks.

Arguably, it's not quite "removed", it's more "never implemented in the new editor", but that's semantics.

I'm afraid we are stuck with the code block for monospaced text in the new editor. I don't believe Atlassian have plans to add mono-space to the formatting options in the new editor.

It seems like a pretty basic requirement. Is there any way I can lend my weight to getting it added?

We use the Monospace option under the More drop-down, or sadly, are forced to go to use the Source Editor to directly insert CSS styling. A real pain. Very disappointing there is such a limited text editor. There have been rumors for the 5 years at least that they were going to address this problem.

I agree we should have easy access to more fonts. However, this thread's suggestion of using code snippet boxes worked for me. They actually look pretty good for what I'm doing.

In JIRA / Confluence I was able to apply monospace / preformatted style by:

• Highlighting the text I wanted to change
• Windows: Ctrl + Shift + M
• Mac: Command + Shift + M

( In my case, the version was: Confluence 1000.0.0-20ae69d19d70 )

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that and it works - but it is essentially a short cut for applying the "Code" format. Once applied I am not able highlight parts of it (with bold, itallic, colour etc)

Incredible that here we are, nearly 4 years later, and still this fairly simple feature (that they used to have!) is unavailable. That's customer focus for you.

You are correct that this feature used to be available, and many users have asked for it to return. At the moment, there is no built-in way to use a monospace font and still apply formatting like bold, italics, or color at the same time. The code or preformatted options lock the text style and do not allow extra formatting.

Right now, the only options are workarounds. Some users copy monospace text from an external editor, but results can be inconsistent. Another option is to submit feedback or vote on an existing feature request so the product team can see the demand.

Unfortunately, there is no direct fix you can enable yourself at this time. The best next step is to raise this through official feedback channels and track updates in future releases.

I appreciate your answer, and it helps me to realize that I am not alone in my disappointment. Like others, I have a lot of pages that had been carefully crafted with color-highlighted sections of code blocks.

It appears that not only did Atlassian nerf all of our pages without an option to save that original format -- but they have not even offered any possible workarounds.

I asked the AI support bot and it said "a lot of people share your issue, but we have no plans to fix this removed capability". I tried sending them a support ticket for the idea of restoring the lost functionality, but I have NEVER had any luck with Atlassian responding to my support items in less than 5 years.
