Customized Template?

Question

We  have a new even that sends a notification to a custom field. I'd like to use the Create Template but add a request. Can I copy a template and edit it? I don't' see that functionality.

Otherwise I might have to use Automation rules?

This is Jira Cloud.

Thank you. Yes, we still have jira server / jira data center. Informative to know it is no longer supported.

from your description I seem to understand you want to have custom (Velocity-)templates tied to specific events (driven by a notification scheme), perhaps simply like it was back then on Jira Server ... there you indeed could have a special template for, let us say, an approval message.

In Cloud there is no such possibility out of the box:

Trying automation rules that take care of this requirement seem to be a good approach - when not wanting to invest in third-party Apps.

You can add an event (System) such as "Submitted for Approval"

When defining an even, you select a template for the email that is sent when a notification is set up for that event, i.e. in a workflow the Post Function "Fire a Submitted for Approval event that can be processed by the listeners."  The event is then shown in the Notification scheme and can be selected ("Add") and then the option "User Custom Field Value" can be selected and a user-picker custom field can be selected. Sorry I can't do a picture for you here...

I want to be able to have a custom template that tells the user who gets the notification (i.e. Approvers) that they need to comment their approval on the referenced. ticket.

Instead I have to create an Automation rule to intercept the transition and send an email to the custom field users. Which is what I've done.
