I've looked at every question online and in the communitys but i can't get it to work. I need quidance. I have run Jira Software on prem before and this is my first setup in Online and I'm pulling my hair :D I can't create a subtask to a story. I have created the issue type, but I can't select the Issue Type "Sub-task" that I created. I Created the Project with the Scrum template. Help please

I wan't the same default in all project så therefore I have not created a new one, just edited global. I'll try and se if it acts different.

@Anna-Karin Stolt Be careful while editing a global scheme, because as the warning says, any change will affect all the projects using this scheme ;) Did you test to create a new scrum project and check the standard configuration (in terms of standard issues types, default issue theme, task icon...) ?

I can't create a subtask to a story. I have created the issue type, but I can't select the Issue Type "Sub-task" that I created.

I Created the Project with the Scrum template.

For a company-managed project, did you add the sub-task type to the issue type scheme? For a team-managed project, did you enable the sub-tasks in the admin -> issue types area?

(You can see if its company or team managed by looking at the bottom left of the screen, it's stated at the bottom of the side bar)

Did you check your "issue type schemes" config? is the "sub-task" visible in the list? because if you have created a new issue type, you need to associate to your project scheme

Your "Task" icon makes me think it is a "not native" standard issue type, maybe it has been created manually? And, are you sure, your project uses this "default issue type theme"?

As confirmed that you have the required issue types, all you need to do is to open a story and look for the ticket mark icon right below the Story Summary, to create a Sub Task.

I dont have that icon. That's the problem.

You may be on a different type of system to the one Gaurav is using to take screenshots, and that icon may be implemented differently. Check the content of the ... menu - if I'm right about the different systems, you should find "create sub-task" as a menu item in there.

If you do not have the icon or the option in the menu, then there are two things that might be wrong (it might be both, so check both)

You do not have create issue permission in the project

Sub-tasks are not enabled in the project - either there are no sub-task types in the issue type scheme associated with the project (See Vincent's answer) or you're in a team-managed project and your project admins have not gone to admin -> issue types and enabled the sub-task option.
