Empty Backlog on Backlog Board(s)

Hello Community,

in my company we have several projects and just one developement team. Because of this we have one overview project to plan one sprint with issues out of different projects.

The sprint in the overview project works totally fine and is shown in every project boards itself. Every project is company managed.

But now I will explain my problem especially with my backlogs:

Some project backlogs are working like the should and show every issue thats marked with Backlog and in some backlogs the Backlog is completely empty and the issues marked with backlog are only shown in the kanban board with a backlog column.

The filters and the board options for every project are in the same scheme. If I creat filters they work totally fine in the filter board, but won't work if I apply the filter inside a board.

Here you can see the backlog board of the overview project with our active sprint shown.

Here you can see the backlog board with the backlog of all projects, but not every backlog issue from every project is shown. The filter should show every issue from every project.

Here you can see on the top the overview project. In every green marked project the backlog works totally fine and it will be displayed as it should in the overview project.

The red marked projects have problems with the backlog and are not shown in the overview backlog.

Here you can see the board option from one of the projects where the backlog is working fine and it is displayed in the overview project.

Here you can see the board option from one of the projects where the backlog is NOT working fine. The backlog board is empty, but I can see the backlog issues in the kanban-board with the backlog column. No display of backlogs issues in the overview project.

Like I explained. The backlog in the backlog board is empty but the backlog column in the kanban-board shows every issue marked with backlog.

If I creat new filter they display every result what I want to filter for, but if I apply them to the different boards in the projects they have no impact or don't show more or what they should filter/show.

What I'm doing wrong? I have no idea what the problem is. The options of the project boards which are working and which not are the same.

For the boards where the backlog is empty, are those all Kanban boards or Scrum boards or a mix of both types of boards?

You mention above for at least one specific project that is using a Kanban board that the Backlog screen is empty, but the issues appear in the Backlog column of the Board display. In that case, that is because the Backlog status is mapped to a column. To get the issues to display on the Backlog screen, you need to move that status to the Backlog area of the column definitions for that board.

When you use the Backlog screen with a Kanban board, you have to map statuses to that area like you would map statuses to a column on the board. The issues in that status can't be both in the Backlog and displaying on the board.

I misunderstood a portion of your post. I don't think my previous reply applies to your scenario.

Let me see if I have understood correct.

Regarding screenshots 5, 6, and 7 - these all concern the same project.

Screenshot 5 is the settings for the Scrum Board. Screenshot 6 is the Backlog screen for the same board, where the Backlog issue list is empty. Screenshot 7 is a Kanban board for the same project showing in the Backlog column the items that are expected to be in the Backlog. The two boards use the same filter.

If I have understood that correctly, please provide the following.

For the Scrum board in screenshots 5 and 6, provide a screen image of the Columns showing the statuses mapped to each column.

Is the status used for the issues in the backlog (in the Backlog column of the Kanban board) mapped to any column in the Scrum board? Or is that status in the Unmapped area for the Columns of the Scrum board?

On a scrum board you must include the status of issues to be listed in the Backlog list in one of the board columns (preferably the left hand column). Any status that is not Mapped to a column will result in issues in that status not displaying in either the Board view or the Backlog view.

@Trudy P Claspill Thank you for your detailed reply. The solution for my problem was pretty simple and every board and backlog works like it should. I really had to put the backlog column on the scrum and kanban boards and it had nothing to do with the filters. The "missing" backlog columns in the boards caused to the filters not working. I'm very relieved that it works now. Thank you for your help!
