Jira notifications

 I rely on notifs within Jira to alert me about a comment or any activity on a ticket. However, if I have not been explicitly tagged on a ticket, I don't get the notification, even if I was the reporter of the ticket, or whether I'm following the ticket, i.e as a requested participant/watching the ticket.

Apart from the notification settings in your projects, the notifications you receive are influenced by the personal settings you can find by clicking your avatar in the top right corner of your screen and then selecting (quite obviously) "personal settings"

Have a look if there aren't any limitations applied.
