How to create a report "Number of new issues per Month" with JQL

I am trying to create a simple query: Count of issues added per Month.

Expected result table:

Month | Count Issues

2021-01 | 5

2021-02 | 10

2021-03 | 12

I am using JQL in the filter view. However, it seems I can only return Issues, not Aggregated Issues. Where and how can I create this report?

And so on. And then create a widget on my dashboard.

PS. I am not looking for out-of-the-box solutions, I want to create multiple custom reports. This is just an example to get started.

Okay,

Create separate dashboard

Use "two dimensional filter statistics" gadget you can use as many as you need.

You will need to create filters for each gadget

The first gadget can show the current month

JQL projects in("project1", "project2") and created > startOfMonth()

Second show issues created since last month (to past 3 months just swap -1 for -3)

created > startOfMonth("-1")

Last month only

created > startOfMonth(-1) AND created < startOfMonth()

Aditional

You can also use startOfWeek() , startOfDay(), startOfYear()

Creates vs resolved gadget will not show created by projects but it will show created issues over a period of time.

Also, as an alternative solution, you can try Dynamic Filter: JQL Replaser & Gadget (created by my team)

It allows creating a dynamic filter to get the issue count for each month. But it would be best if you created separate filters for each month. For example

1. Create smart fields

- for months

- for project

2. Create Dynamic Filters for each month (using created before smart fields)

3. Open Gadget of Dynamic Filter on Jira Dashboard. Select of gadget you need. It can be a simple issue counter, 2 dimension gadget, or Pie Chart

This solution's disadvantage is that the filter and gadget need to be created separately for each month.
But if you can't find a better solution, you can try it.

Seriously I can't just write some SQL sort of thing and have data?????

So JQL should actually be called JFL (Jira Filter Language) ???

Where is the tutorial to write my own gadgets? If that is supported then....

My expectation of JQL was the reason to choose Jira: build amazing reports and dashboards on issues. Please tell me I still can using custom gadgets.

Are you talking about adding to the sprint or adding to the board?

Anyway:

Step 1) Go to filters and create one that delivers the issues you need (by using JQL or by using the basic that delivers the expected issues/tickets

Step 2) go to dashboard --> make use of the "Created vs Resolved Chart" under the dashboard, aggregated by month, and then you get a measure of tickets per month (or week)
