Is there a way to get a list of companies within an issue type?

I am look for the best way to get a list of companies into a project under the issue type. I have tried a drop down but that is limited to 55 options. I would prefer not to do a short text as I want to avoid duplicate companies being entered. IE Company A vs. company a. We are using this to build a report of the companies that are having a lot bugs, so we can better understand if this is user error or not.

Yes, it makes sense. The problem is that you are using a Next-gen project which has those limitations. If you switch/migrate to a Classic Software project that uses shared custom fields, you can have more options in the list.

We actually use an add-on called External Fields for Jira which allows us to link the dropdown custom field to an external source such as an XML file or a database.

Hi John,

Sorry I should have been a little more clear. I have the drop down list called "Company" the problem with the drop down list is it is limited to 55 entries, we are closing in on 300 companies that we support so the drop down list won't work. I would like to be able to list all of the companies from a drop down or something similar where I can enter the company name once and then have another employee pick that name in the future so that their is no duplicate entries/misspelled company names, etc.

The report I am looking to put together is to be able to look at the list of issues we currently have and see in another column the company that is having the bug. We get a lot of clients that report a lot of bugs vs. actually being a bug.

I am not clear on what you are trying to accomplish. I see that you have added a field called Company. Are you trying to populate the list of values for that field?

What exactly are you wanting to see? A report?
