Cant set start/end Date. Date field always switches back to actual month

Hi all

I'm new with jira.

So i hope to get some help from the community.

We got the problem, that we can't set a beginning- or expiring-date after this month (january). We can pick a Date (ex. 20.2.2021) out from the calendar, but re-open the task again, it shows the date: 20.1.2021!

How is this possible?

We didnt set a rule or a automatisation

I understand that you are attempting to set date values, but that these consistently appear to be getting reverted specifically in the month value to a value of 1 (January) despite whatever other value you put in there.

I have a hunch as to the cause here. Could you please navigate within Jira into the System -> Advanaced settings page? You can get there by going to the Cog icon -> System -> General Configuration -> then click the Advanced settings button OR navigate specifically to [yourSite].atlassian.net/secure/admin/AdvancedApplicationProperties.jspa

I am interested to see what values you have entered here for

jira.date.picker.java.format
jira.date.picker.javascript.format
jira.date.time.picker.java.format
jira.date.time.picker.javascript.format

Here is my own customized entries. The only changes I made in my own was to use 4 digit year values everywhere.

What I suspect has happened here is that you might have selected a .java.format value in using a 'm' or 'mm' (minute) instead of an 'M', 'MM', or 'MMM' value (Month). If I am correct, it could explain the behavior you have seen here. Jira is attempting to interpret the date value you have selected, but because it's being told to look at this second number as a minute value, the month value isn't technically being set by Jira when you enter any date. As such Jira is defaulting to a value of 1 because it needs to have some value here or dates just don't work at all.

Let me know what your values are on this page for those 4 fields, and I should be able to help you correct them so that dates will appear the way you want within Jira.

Hi @stiv_marro , welcome to the Community. This seems very wrong. To be clear you have a date field and when you select a date it registers in the field but you then reload the page and the dat has changed. Further it seems you are saying that the behavior depend on the actual date selected, I.e. a date beyond Jan 31. Is this correct? If automation or some sort of background action is not happening then sure seems like a bug. But TBH I’m not yet there. Can you perform further testing to zero in on the behavior? What about other date fields? Different dates?

Yes you're right. I have tested all the date fields. I'ts impossible to set a date after 31.1.2021!

We just have this 2 date fields: Expiry date and finishing date.

Is it possible you are using some addon that is associated with these dates? Has this behavior changed recently? I have to imagine there is something that is constraining these dates. Have you another project you can test with or can you create one?

We use Jira now for 1 week. So Jira is a new tool that we work with.

This problem was existing in the beginning of use.

I just created a new project and testet the same case.

I put a datefield in my task.

After i picked a date from the datepicker it registers the date right.

When i reopen the task again, the date jumped back to the actual month.

Same error in the new project

Are these fields related to any plugins e.g. WBS Gantt

If you go to Jira Administration/Manage Apps you will see all the installed plugins.

If you have scriptrunner installed, it is possible there maybe a behaviour defined for the date fields.

This is one of the strangest problems on here

the screen capture show the problem happening using the date picker widget. The field seems to change on the page but gets reset.

But i would be very glad if you can set all dates correctly for me. Date Format dd.MM.YY

Because if i open a new task and try to take a date from the picker, it doesn't work. I have to put it manually. Changing dates in the picker from a existing task, works fine!
